Te‑Moak Tribe of Western Shoshone Indians of Nevada
The Te-Moak Tribe of Western Shoshone Indians of Nevada is a federally recognized coalition government of the Western Shoshone (Newe) people based in northeastern Nevada, with its offices in Elko. (Te-Moak Tribe) It brings together four constituent bands—the Battle Mountain Colony, the Elko Colony, the South Fork Reservation, and the Wells Colony—each of which retains local governance while the tribal council holds overarching jurisdiction over tribal lands. (Te-Moak Tribe) The tribe’s constitution and by-laws were adopted and approved in 1938, following organization under the Indian Reorganization Act of 1934, and later amended in 1982.
